Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen. Faith is the key to the door the opens up salvation and opens up the walk that is being a disciple of Christ. The basics of faith come from finding a source of strength and belief in something unseen. People oddly have faith in common things but lack that faith in greater matters. Take a chair for example. Do you turn the chair over and ensure all its screws or bolts are in place? That the legs are strong? That their is not a bomb or something that may hurt you under the chair? You take faith that the chair is safe and will hold you up with out ever checking the chair to see if your faith is well founded. Your walk with God works the same. Your faith is based on something unseen but your faith is that despite God being unseen he actually exists. Its easy to be something in front of a person, your true personality and traits show themselves in private when the people you seek to impress are not looking. Your faith works the same. If you were able to see God, would you believe His word, His Presence, and what He does in your life in the world? Would it simply be practice to please some one around or the actual belief that Jesus is the Son of our shared Creator and that the Son’s death on the cross saves us from the eternal punishment of sin? One is simply acting well in front of a person and the other is the realization that something greater then our own plane of existence cares about us more then any person and our sole duty in this relationship is to simply have faith in its existence. Take that step and put the same amount of faith we put in chairs in God.
